ABOUT GENNA + JESSE
Genna & Jesse are a harmony-driven musical duo whose life together has been shaped by songs, travel, curiosity, and an unconventional approach to making a life in music. Rooted in the rich traditions of American music—from soul, folk and blues to country, pop and jazz—their music is held together by soulful harmony, expressive songwriting, and a deep love of storytelling.
Hailing from Michigan and Philadelphia, Genna & Jesse crossed paths after each had spent years making music in cities including San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Detroit, and Chicago. Together, they spent the first decade of their career living nomadically—writing, recording, and performing around the world—before eventually settling with their family into a country home in southern Italy. They still spend much of each year on the road, carrying that sense of movement and discovery into the music they make.
What began as two songwriters joining forces became a creative life built largely on the road. For years, Genna & Jesse traveled without a conventional home base, writing and recording wherever they could—from borrowed rooms and makeshift home studios to professional studios encountered along the way—while carrying their instruments from city to city and country to country, performing everywhere from concert halls and festivals to cafés, clubs, living rooms, and unexpected spaces in between.
Along the way, life on the road became more than a way to bring songs to an audience. It became a way of knowing the world. The people, places, languages, meals, long drives, unlikely friendships, and thousands of rooms they’ve passed through have all found their way, somehow, into the music.
Eventually, the road led to a country home in southern Italy, where a little converted garage nestled in an olive grove became their home studio—and to another chapter they were often told would be incompatible with the life they had built: parenthood.
Instead of choosing between family life and the musical life that had shaped them, Genna & Jesse began finding ways to hold both. Their son has grown up between home and the road, olive trees and tour vans, familiar rhythms and changing landscapes. The result is a life that is more rooted than it once was, but no less curious: months at home in Puglia woven together with seasons of touring, creating, traveling, and gathering with people through music.

The chemistry between Genna & Jesse is built as much on contrast as similarity. Onstage, Genna is the storyteller and connector, moving easily between humor and vulnerability and drawing a room into the emotional world of a song. Jesse is often the quieter presence, communicating most freely through the music itself—restless, inventive, and willing to follow an idea somewhere unexpected. As writers, those differences take other forms: Jesse has a particular gift for wordplay, wit, and the unexpected turn; Genna tends toward imagery, emotional landscape, and the story beneath the story.
Their songwriting grows out of that contrast. Sometimes Jesse brings a musical idea and Genna hears almost immediately the melody and story waiting inside it; other times Genna brings the song and Jesse finds the harmonic or structural turn that opens it up. Both write independently as well, and over years of collaboration they’ve become each other’s trusted editors—challenging an easy choice, recognizing the strength in something the other has overlooked, and pushing the work toward somewhere neither would necessarily have gone alone.
That exchange reaches well beyond the music. At the center of the songs, the travels, the family, and the unconventional life they’ve built together is something both simple and surprisingly difficult: the ongoing practice of making room for another person to be fully themselves.
Perhaps that is what Genna & Jesse has always been about: two very different people creating something together that leaves room for both of them—and becomes richer because of the difference.
