Written as a celebration and remembrance of an extraordinary woman whose life, artistry, and love of music touched countless people.
A rollicking, Grateful Dead–inspired birthday song celebrating a remarkable civil rights lawyer and a life far too interesting for clichés.
Commissioned by a cultural organization exploring the meaning of home after losing its own venue, Home Is Here grew into something larger: a deeply personal song about belonging and family that became the organization’s theme song—and ultimately part of Genna & Jesse’s own repertoire.
HOW IT WORKS
Every song begins with getting to know the story. We’ll explore with you the person, relationship, idea, or moment at the heart of the commission, often using thoughtful questions to uncover the stories, details, memories, and language that make it uniquely yours.
From there, the song begins to take shape—but you remain part of the process. We share ideas, ask questions, and invite your feedback along the way, making sure we’ve understood what matters most while still bringing our own instincts and craft to the songwriting.
Then we do what we do with our own music: follow the story until it becomes a song. Melody, lyrics, arrangement, and performance grow out of that collaboration, with the goal of creating something true to what inspired it that also stands on its own as a piece of music.
THE FINISHED SONG
Each commission includes an original song written specifically for you and a finished recording you can keep, share, and return to for years to come. The exact scope can vary depending on the project, and we’ll talk through the possibilities together before we begin.
Custom song commissions begin at $600 (€500), with final pricing depending on the scope of the project.
